🥛 Three-ingredient milks
Plant-based dairy alternative manufacturer Califia Farms launched a line of organic oat and almond milks. The products are made with only three ingredients: purified water, sea salt and oats or almonds. They are not first one, following companies like Malk or Elmhust.
🇮🇳 Perfect Day to India
Precision fermentation ingredient maker Perfect Day completed the acquisition of India’s Sterling Biotech Limited, the sixth-largest manufacturer of gelatin in the world. Perfect Day was the winning bidder for the company, which was sold at a bankruptcy auction for 638 crore rupees ($78.1 million), doubling its production capacity.
🥥 Is it something wrong with coconut?
Zero Acre Farms recently published a piece on coconut oil. In short, its high saturated fat content once categorized coconut oil as unhealthy (it contains ~83% saturated fats), but with recent research disproving it, consumer demand has increased by about 10% each year since 2015. The environmental impact remains a challenge, though. Per million tons of oil, coconut oil production threatens more total species than palm oil (18.1 vs 3.8).
