One week in a post #38: Cacao Water, Packaging from GHG, Scope 3 (weak) progress, Supply Chain Hacking.
[Three pieces of news]
1/ More Products made from Captured Greenhouse Gas
Origin Materials Inc. and Newlight Technologies Inc. got on the news this week as they’re growing in scale. The companies use captured emissions to manufacture materials used to make products including clothes, tires and plastic bottles. The two companies have signed deals with Target Corp., Ford Motor Co. and other companies hoping to reduce emissions in supply chains and from the use of their goods. Origin Materials reports to have already $9 billion in orders.
2/ How are Food Giants doing on Scope 3
Greenhouse gas emissions across nine of the world’s largest food companies have risen by a combined 27 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in the past 12 months. Carbon footprints increased by 7% on average in the most recent year of reporting, as brands struggled to contain their Scope 3 emissions.
3/ McDonald’s France Piloting Reusable Pack
The fast food giant is a massive producer of plastic waste – only half of McDonald’s packaging is made from sustainable materials and only 10 per cent of its outlets recycle. After President Emmanuel Macron got interested in the company’s initiative aimed to increase reusable packaging, the media flooded the web with the news.
